World Book Day 2021
We may be online but that has only meant Caterham pupils have embraced World Book Day on a whole new level, with so many pupils joining staff in getting dressed up as favourite book characters, looking fantastic! Furthermore, First, Second and Third Year pupils enjoyed the opportunity to take a break from screens to celebrate and enjoy reading by doing a host of different activities, from creating a reading nook or poster for their favourite book, filming their favourite moment from a novel, designing book covers to reaching out to someone isolated in lockdown and reading to them.
Last year’s lockdown saw a surge in reading (the Literacy Trust’s report has further details click here), with children and adults alike realising that reading gives us an escape, benefits our mental wellbeing and of course, helps develop our understanding of the world and grapple with how we deal with some of life’s challenges. But it also offers us sheer joy and that was so evident from the way our pupils embraced today’s celebration – do enjoy a mere snapshot of some of the inspiring costumes and activities from today.
Happy World Book Day!
