Wonderful Music at Winter Concert

Wonderful Music at Winter Concert

On Tuesday, the Music Department hosted its annual Winter Concert which showcased an eclectic mix of repertoire from all our orchestras and larger chamber ensembles. Alongside many of our many experienced musicians, it was also lovely to see pupils performing at their first senior school concert.

Our 60 strong Symphony Orchestra started the evening with one of Dvorak’s vivacious Slavonic Dances, followed by the Finale from Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite and the 1st movement of Mozart’s Symphony No. 40, all performed with confidence and panache.

Film Orchestra then treated the audience to a feast of John Williams with highlights from Jurassic Park and E.T, performed with a great sense of style and enjoyment.

Our New Music Ensemble performed two contemporary works, really showing off their mastery of this style both in terms of maturity and skill, followed by a lovely rendition of Bozza’s Andantino from our Flute Choir.

The evening then took a turn to the jazz side with our Saxophone Ensemble and Swing Band brilliantly performing such classics as Piazzola’s Libertango and Herbie Hancock’s Watermelon Man – a fantastic way to round off a wonderful concert.
