Wellbeing – Mental Health Awareness
Pupil wellbeing is a vital part of the ethos here at Caterham; we recognise that children and young people learn best when they are thriving and that being equipped with tools and skills to succeed in life beyond School is an integral part of the education we offer.
Mental health of adolescents is often in the news, with 21st century life giving our young people a range of challenges to navigate from social media to pressure to succeed. We recognise the importance of taking a whole school, community wide approach to pastoral care and as such will support our pupils to thrive both now and in the future. A powerful mental health awareness lecture was a wonderful way to start the term off to our senior school staff, prep school staff, bursarial staff and trustees whilst the pupils started their term off with a whole school assembly led by Mr Jones who reminded the community of the importance of focussing on ‘being’ not just ‘doing’, including being a good friend and being kind.
We were delighted to welcome wellbeing campaigner Dick Moore to give an inspiring, insightful talk on mental health which captivated staff. For more information about Dick, including links to TEDex talks and interviews with Dick, visit: www.dickmoore.org/
