Visit from animator Carlos Lutterbach
The Art Scholars in First to Third Year were extremely lucky today to receive a visit from Carlos Lutterbach, designer and animator who has worked on many high-profile animated films, including Chicken Run 2 and The Simpson’s Movie.
Mr Lutterbach spoke mainly about his work on Tom & Jerry, A Boy Called Christmas and Sherlock Gnomes, showing the progression from very quick initial conversations and sketches on post-it notes to gain approval from directors, then exploring varied camera angles and how these impact movement in the scene and audience responses, to working quickly, not being afraid to make mistakes and the importance of meeting deadlines. He demonstrated how drawings developed and were refined and then how the concepts looked in the finished films.
Pupils then had the opportunity to very quickly explore how to respond to a simple task in a variety of ways, linking the day’s learning to their ongoing competition work which often has very tight and strict deadlines.
We are all hugely grateful to Carlos for taking the time to share his skills and experience, and the pupils will benefit greatly from his insight, moving forward with their own work.
