U19 Qualify at ECFC National Schools Chess Champs
It was a busy week for the under 19 Chess teams with two fixtures being played.
At the start of the week, the under 19 A team consisting of Rupert M, Leonid S, George T, Rodney L, Adilet O and Taiyan L played in the first knockout round of the ECF National Schools’ Championship. We were drawn against Greenshaw High School in Sutton and though many of the matches were close, we eventually won on all six boards to qualify for the next round. We are likely to play against Wilson’s in the next match, one of the best teams in the country so this will certainly be a stiff challenge.
The following day, two teams of four played in a tournament hosted by Sevenoaks School, with teams from Eltham College, Judd, Chingford Foundation School and Skinners competing with Caterham and the hosts. The A-team consisting of Rupert, Leonid, George and Rodney played excellently winning three of their four matches and finishing second overall. The B team of Adilet, Taiyan alongside Ronav D and Joseph N had some strong performances but played several A-teams of other schools and only managed one draw in their four matches.
Well done to all those who played.
Mr Hind
