U18 Win Surrey Vase at Surrey Rugby 7s Tournament

The U18 Rugby 7s squad won the Surrey Vase at this year’s Surrey 7s tournament, the side overcame recent National Cup Champions Trinity School and local rivals John Fisher School to win under the setting sun with a reduced squad size.

Impressive determination, speed and power from Seb T S and Theo B resulted in tries against, Epsom, Whitgift and Dulwich en- route to the final.

The U18B 7 recorded impressive victories over Graveney 1st team and St Cecila’s 1st team on their route to the Bowl Semi-Final. The squad, led by Lucas A, showed dogged defence and impressive ruck speed throughout the day, halting opposition advances in front of a large crowd on the flat and fast surface of Old Reigatian 1st team pitch.

On Monday the U14s, fresh from their recent rugby 7’s tour to Lisbon, took to Homefield in Caterham-hosted U14 Surrey 7’s competition.

The side logged impressive victories against Claremont Fan Court, Christ’s Hospital, Downsend and Wimbledon College and also made it to the Vase Final.

However, it was heartbreak on this occasion as the side fought back from 14-0 down to bring the scores level through Antione G.

At 14-a- piece the game entered the last play, and as can happen with a ball of this shape, an unusual bounce found its way into the hands of a St John’s  player who took the victory up on the Hill Fields pitches.
