Old Cat Catherine Chao Shares Experience with Physicists

Back in December, Old Caterhamian Catherine Chao, now reading physics at Imperial College London, returned with some words of wisdom and some tricky problems for our aspiring physicists. Making for an exceptional Physics Extension session, Catherine began by giving a superb talk on what it is like to study physics at university. She then followed on by complementing Einstein’s Special Relativity studied this term by bringing along and handing out her first-year undergraduate problem sheets on the very same topic. Tackling ideas such as Lorentz-Fitzgerald contraction, time dilation, and the rear-clock-ahead effect, our keen physicists not only took on the challenge admirably but even completed the sheets!
