National Schools Lacrosse

This week saw our teams take on the National Schools Lacrosse competition. This is one of the toughest lacrosse competitions of the season, with over 50 schools competing.

It was a great experience for our girls to be at such a big event and to be able to take part in such a competitive competition.

The 1st and 2nd team tournament took place over two days and in unusual scenes, the sun was shining in Aldershot, which provided even more enjoyment throughout the weekend. Our 1st team finished in the top 16 of Division 1, with a tough set of fixtures throughout the weekend. The 2nds finished in the quarter final of division 2 with a narrow loss to Queen Anne’s.

Monday saw our 3rd team and U15A team competition, with our 3rds finishing in the quarter final of division 1, having never qualified in the top division before, which is testament to their hard work and dedication throughout the season. Our mighty U15A’s, fought their way to the semi-finals of division 1, playing some fantastic lacrosse throughout the day. It is exciting to see the talent moving into the senior programme next season.

We finished the four days with our juniors on Tuesday. It was the U13’s first time in a competition like this and it is safe to say, they bought the ribbons and facepaint ready for the occasion. They narrowly missed out on a semi-final spot in Division 1, losing to Abbott’s Hill in the quarter finals. However, their lacrosse and game knowledge continued to get better and better throughout the day.

Our wonderful U14’s had the determination of steel throughout the tournament. They had an incredibly tough section, but managed to qualify for the Chamionship division, after a 1-0 loss against local rivals GHS, only to face them again in the final 16 knock outs. Our girls were up for the challenge after the defeat in the group stages and put out an unbelievable performance to win 2-1, putting them into the quarter finals. Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be against a fast and furious LEH side. However, they must be commended for their hard work, resilience and skills throughout the day.

All girls should be proud of the phenomenal achievements of the last 4 days of lacrosse. Over 100 of our girls took part in the competition, and we still have an exciting 2 days next week for our U15B team nationals as well as the U14 and U14B team Coloma Cup.

As ever, thank you to all the parents who came to support and bought their children in for the early tournament starts.
