Interview Practise
On Monday 11 October, at 7.00pm, I would like to offer our twelve potential Upper Sixth medics, as well as fifteen pupils from our partner school, the London Academy of Excellence, the opportunity to have a one-to-one mock interview with a medical specialist. This will be followed by a practice MMI (multiple mini interview) on Monday 29 November, also at 7.00pm. To do this, I would like to reach out to all parents and guardians in the medical profession who would be prepared to join me for one, or even both, of these sessions to act as the interviewers.
For the one-to-one interviews, I will be able to provide you with a GDPR version of their UCAS application and a suggested interview format with a bank of questions. The interview will last for thirty minutes and will be followed by a ten-minute verbal debrief, where I would ask you to feedback how well a pupil performed and how they might improve.
The MMI session will involve ten stations, each focussing on a specific area related to becoming a medic. These stations will last for five minutes each and will test communication, ethics, knowledge of the NHS, empathy, critical thinking and other areas linked to the skills required to make a successful doctor. You will be assigned to one station for the duration of the evening and the detail of the exercise will be sent to you in advance, with explicit instructions. Once again, you will be asked to give verbal feedback after each student.
I would be absolutely delighted if you were able to find time to support our pupils in this way and I am very happy to answer any questions you might have, before you commit. Please do contact Mrs Clare Brown, Head of Careers on [email protected] or call her on 01883 343028 extension 307, to discuss further. Thank you so much for your support, it is very much appreciated at this very busy time.
