Exploring the National Archives
This week Mrs Nagar lead the Gender Sexuality Alliance group through an exploration of the National Archives. We explored documents that revealed attitudes towards the LGBTQ+ community in the 1930’s. The documents ranged from personal letters to photographs to witness statements, giving us an insight into the way in which the LGBTQ+ community were discriminated against.
This led to a lively discussion about the way in which history is captured in documentation and consideration of the voices that are not heard or recognised. We are proud of the diverse community at Caterham School – this has made us consider ways to celebrate and document the experiences of our community, contributing to a wider perspective on LGBTQ+ history.
