Chess Success for George and Ann T

Chess Success for George and Ann T

Brother and sister George T and Ann T were both in chess action over the Easter break, with George again being selected to play for the England National Junior Chess Squad in the Frydek-Mistek junior tournament in the Czech Republic. England won the team event overall against the other competitor teams. One of the highlights of the week was a simul match against the Slovakian Grandmaster Jan Markos.

Meanwhile, Ann (who, like George, was born in Monmouthshire) has been selected to play for the Wales U18 team in the 2025 Glorney Gilbert International Tournament being held in Newport. This is an international junior team event that has been running continuously since 1949 and includes teams from England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales. Ann was in action over the Easter weekend competing in the Welsh Open to warm up for her international team debut.

Ann and George will both be competing in the British Chess Championships in Liverpool this coming August and we expect plenty of household England v Wales practice matches in the run-up to this tournament!
