CCF Cadet Climbing Skills on Snowdonia
The opportunities presented to me by CCF are always unbelievably fun, demanding and useful. This half-term I was selected to make a trip to North Wales with the UK-wide Cadet Centre for Adventurous Training (CCAT), which was as enjoyable as them all. Joining other cadets from across the country, I undertook a “rock skills foundation” course that was both informative and practical. We learnt all the safety measures on day one meaning we had the rest of the week to climb outdoors on the crags of Snowdonia, learn more things and just enjoy the course. We were well prepared for each day thanks to the stores at Capel Curig that had all the climbing equipment, bags and waterproofs (not that we needed them in lovely weather) for the week. The accommodation itself was great, as in the evening we had to ourselves a kitchen area, a work space, a lecture room, and showers. I’d fully recommend this experience to anyone who loves the outdoors, wants to meet new people and learn more about their course or even try a completely new one.
