Caterham Music – Spring Concert Brings St John’s to Life
The Music Department was delighted to present our annual Spring Concert in the beautiful setting of St John’s Church in the heart of Caterham.
Featuring our larger orchestras, the evening began with our Symphony Orchestra confidently performing the first movement of Shostakovich’s Jazz Suite and the first movement of Hummel’s Trumpet Concerto with a commanding and inspiring soloist in Alvin P (U6).
Continuing the theme of concerto movements, Fiona Z (U6) performed the second movement of Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with breathtaking musicality and detail, accompanied by the wonderful Caterham Consort, who also performed Spring from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, with beautiful solos from Bradyn C, Mark U (Fourth Year), Chup-Hei W, and Ayrton N (Fifth Year).
In a change of pace and style, our Lower School Orchestra made their debut performance with fantastic renditions of The Bare Necessities and Early Morning Boogie to the delight of the audience, followed by our excellent Film Orchestra who rounded off the evening with a rousing performance of Shore’s Lord of the Rings – with wonderful vocal solos from Elliot W and Tom B (Second Year), it was a suitably climactic end to another outstanding musical event.
Well done to all our performers.
