A Level Results Open Doors for Class of 2021
Huge congratulations to the Class of 2021 today as A Level results envelopes opened the door to places at Oxford and Cambridge, at medical school and a vast range of universities and destinations. 99 per cent of Caterham pupils secured a place at their university of choice, and close to 90 per cent of all pupils at their first choice course and university. Today’s results saw all pupils with offers for medical school, for Oxford and Cambridge Universities and degree apprenticeships with top global firms secure their places. Over half of all grades confirmed and awarded by the exam boards today were at the top A* grade with 83 per cent of all grades awarded either A* or A grade.

The Headmaster, Ceri Jones, said: “I am incredibly proud of each and every one of our class of 2021 and thrilled at the successful progression of our pupils to the next exciting stage of their lives in exceptional circumstances. Their whole world was turned upside down eighteen months ago and they have shown great fortitude in ensuring that Covid-19 has not defined them. They are part of the can do and will do generation, and they deserve our praise and admiration. These results are a huge achievement from our young people who have proven themselves resilient, optimistic and capable through the significant challenges of the pandemic. They have done exceptionally well across a Sixth Form experience which switched between virtual and physical schooling, but which saw them and their teachers adapt quickly and thrive. Our pupils are leaving with fantastic grades and a skillset for life as problem solvers, digitally confident young people ready to step forward. They have learned so much more than academic content over the past year and I am confident they will go on to achieve great things in the future. ”
“Thanks must also go to parents and families whose support and partnership with school is a significant part of today’s shared success. The success that families made of virtual schooling at a time of great disruption and uncertainty in their own lives was crucial. Thanks are also due to our hardworking and inspiring team of teachers here who showed great innovation and determination through virtual school, through assessments and as they continued to teach and prepare our Sixth form students for university study right to the end of the summer term.”
Eleven Caterham pupils will now take up their place to read medicine in the autumn in a highly competitive year. This year’s pupils heading to Oxford and Cambridge will join the 50+ Old Caterhamians currently studying at the universities. Caterham pupils secured their first choice university place in 2021 across a broad range of courses from architecture to marine and mechanical engineering and from economics to music and graphic design.
