Junior Maths Team Secure Top Scores
Caterham’s junior maths team braved the Beast-from-the-East to travel to Trinity School for the regional maths team challenge competition. The competition consists of four rounds of challenging questions, including a crossword type round with numbers and a relay event. In the first round our team scored a fantastic 58 out of a possible 60 points. Unfortunately, with the time now at 11.00am news came through that Southern Rail had asked for people to conclude their journeys by 3.00pm that day. The competition organisers decided that we would only have time to finish the next round before sending us all home. With a score of 46 out of 56 in the cross number round, the team was hopeful of a top three finish, but it transpired that we finished just outside of the podium positions. Whilst great fun was had by all, we were pleased to make it home safely before the snow arrived.
This was a great performance by the pupils and a special thank you must go Dr. Dimakos for running the Junior Maths Club during Tuesday lunch times. At times, there have been over 20 pupils in M27 having great fun working through interesting maths problems. If you think you would like to join us, please do come along.
