Live Lounge Jazz Spectacular

Our regular Live Lounge embraced Jazz this term- and resulted in a most wonderful, jaw-dropping evening of talent from our vocal pupils. Vocalists from all year groups performed a programme of jazz classics that included ‘Summertime’, ‘Mack The Knife’, ‘Feeling Good’ and ‘Cry Me A River’. All performers showed great style, nuance and panache as they sang with the staff band and audience members were seen both toe-tapping and full of tears- a true journey through the jazz genre that affected everyone in the room. The Wilberforce Hall, transformed into a cabaret venue for the evening, was packed and rapturous applause was given to every performer. Particular highlights would include Ann T’s rendition of Billy Joel’s ‘New York State of Mind’ and Sammy o’D’s swing version of Amy Winehouse’s ‘Back to Black’. Other singers impressively sang in Portuguese, Spanish and French adding yet more flair to the performances. Vocalpoint, our upper-voice choir sang classic jazz hits ‘Dream a Little Dream’ and ‘City of Stars’ from La La Land with great style and energy. The evening was rounded off by a most impressive performance from our Swing Band (joined by the Flute Ensemble) who performed ‘Fly Me To the Moon’ and Quincy Jones’s ‘Soul Bossa Nova’. Congratulations to all who took part in this fantastic showcase that celebrated Jazz in all its glory.
