Second Place for George at ARTiculation 2025
Caterham School’s bid to win the prestigious, national ARTiculation competition 2025 was hard fought by George M (L6), who had been selected by a panel of school judges to represent the school at the regional semi-final in Folkestone on Thursday 13 February. The Caterham internal heat was a highly engaging event held in November and was initially entered by 18 Lower Sixth pupils with six shortlisted to present their talks.
The competition requires each contestant to talk for ten minutes about an artwork of their choosing and celebrates contextual understanding, personal opinion and oracy skills. George spoke eloquently and powerfully on Abramović’s performance art piece, Nude with Skeleton. George came second overall out of the eight presenters however the ‘prize’ is the same for all pupils gaining membership to the ARTiculation Alumni which opens up opportunities and connections in the Art exhibiting and curating world.
Feedback from the judges was :
There was such power in your presentation – we loved how passionately and confidently you spoke about Marina Abramović’s work. It was clear how much seeing the performance live influenced you, and that really came through. Your pace was great, and you explained everything so clearly. You also highlighted new aspects of the work that we hadn’t considered before, which made it even more engaging. Perhaps you could have referenced a few more performance art pieces in different styles to further reinforce the impact of Abramović’s work within the genre. But overall, it was a brilliant talk. We really enjoyed it!
