Oxford and Cambridge Offer Celebrations!

Thirteen Caterham pupils are celebrating after receiving offers from Cambridge and Oxford University. The offers span an extensive range of subjects from PPE at Oxford to Maths to English, Chemistry, Classics, Geography, Design, Psychology, Philosophy and Linguistics, Spanish and French, Human, Social, and Political Sciences, Maths and History across both universities.

The good news followed a fantastic 92 per cent application-to-interview ratio with 34 out of 37 applicants to both Oxford and Cambridge being called to interview. The application and interview process for Oxbridge is notoriously tough and pupils gain tailored support from as early as the Fifth Year, and throughout their application process. The Oxbridge support is part of Caterham’s Sixth Form EDGE pathways programme which provides dedicated and focused support for a range of ambitions including US and overseas universities, degree apprenticeships, medicine, veterinary and dentistry, architecture and performing arts conservatoires. The EDGE Pathways programme runs alongside support for UCAS applications.

Ceri Jones, Headmaster, said: “Huge congratulations to our pupils on their achievements. Sixth Formers are celebrating significant accomplishments today and can be rightfully proud. We support a wide range of pathways at Caterham and we absolutely know that the Oxbridge route is not for everyone nor necessarily the best option for a range of courses, however, it does act as a barometer for academic ambition, and Oxford and Cambridge remain fantastic options for our pupils.”

“The post Sixth Form landscape is changing for our young people with an increased range of options including US and overseas universities and professional Degree Apprenticeships. It is vital that we support our young people from the earliest point to achieve their ambitions beyond school alongside ensuring they reach their potential and secure top academic grades.”

The Spectator magazine identified Caterham as the top school in Surrey for gaining offers and securing places at Oxford and Cambridge Universities, based on data released from both universities. In their study The Spectator included all UK independent and state-maintained schools and colleges and placed Caterham as number one in Surrey and no.61 across the UK.
