Caterham’s Law Society Goes from Strength to Strength

The Caterham School Law Society has been up and running for four months and has been a wonderful addition to the school’s co-curricular programme. The Society was founded by Sophia-Grace (Lower Sixth) who brought together other legally minded individuals to introduce them to the world of law and help them start exploring their interests in post-Sixth Form opportunities.

The Law Society meets weekly and each session is different. With help from staff volunteers, Sophia-Grace has been able to get prominent guest speakers from top law firms to give talks surrounding all areas of law. Additionally, the pupils deliver their own presentations on topics they have researched themselves, exploring the vast and complicated topics law has to offer. Most excitingly, this term has seen the launch of a mock trial, where pupils study a case and present their arguments in a simulated crown court trial. This is a great way for them to develop their public speaking and critical thinking skills, essential when they move on to the next part of their legal journey.

Until now, the Law Society has been open just to Sixth Form pupils, but moving forward it will also be welcoming Fifth Years. This will enable them to get a feel for the Society, sit in on the mock trial after half term and hopefully inspire them to join the club and maybe even pursue a career in law.  If you are a current Fifth Year and interested in coming along, please contact Mrs Brown at [email protected]
