French Trip to Lille: A Day to Remember
Last week, the Upper Sixth pupils embarked on an exciting day trip to Lille, an adventure that blended cultural discovery, festive cheer, and immersive French practice. With an early start at St Pancras, spirits were high as the group boarded the Eurostar, eager for the day ahead.
The first highlight was a climb up the iconic Beffroi de Lille. From the top, students were treated to breathtaking views of the town, setting the stage for the day’s explorations. They then wandered through Lille’s charming little streets, solving puzzles via an interactive app, that took them on a treasure hunt for historical and cultural clues. This engaging activity not only tested their problem-solving skills but also deepened their understanding of Lille’s rich heritage.
Afterward, the group enjoyed some free time at the enchanting Christmas market, a feast for the senses with its twinkling lights, seasonal aromas, and unique stalls. Students embraced the festive atmosphere, picking up gifts and sampling local delicacies.
As the day drew to a close, everyone gathered at a traditional brasserie for an authentic French dining experience. The meal provided the perfect opportunity to practice their French, navigating the menu with the help of a patient and knowledgeable waiter. Thanks to their guidance, every student tried something typical of the region, sparking conversations about the flavours and traditions they were discovering.
All too soon, it was time to return home. With everyone wishing the trip could have lasted longer, the group arrived back at St Pancras tired but filled with wonderful memories of an action-packed day in Lille. This trip was a fantastic chance to experience French culture first-hand, and it’s safe to say Lille left a lasting impression on us all.
