Celebrating Diwali

This week we marked Diwali with our first ‘Diwali showcase’ at the Senior school. This showcase was an opportunity to bring together pupils and staff in our community who celebrate Diwali and a chance for them to come together to enjoy this celebration. It was also used as an opportunity to teach other pupils in the community about the ‘Festival of Light’ and how and why families celebrate this. Pupils and staff brought in decorations, photos of families celebrating, henna designs and equipment, rangoli , the celebratory clothes that they wear, along with examples of the sweet treats which are given out. Voice4Change pupils led the planning and preparation of this event and created resources to hand out to teach others in our community about the festival. This was a powerful way to recognise and celebrate this important religious festival and was well received by pupils and staff alike.
