ETS Perform to Perfection at Southwell Minster, Nottingham
ETS, our upper voice sacred choir performed an outstanding concert at the beautiful Southwell Minster in Nottingham. The choir appeared by special invitation of Mr Guy Turner, Archivist for The Eric Thiman Collection. The huge collection of Eric Thiman’s choral music is held at the iconic cathedral. In 2016, ETS were delighted to be invited to record an album of music by Eric Thiman- this recording has been hugely successful with enthusiasts both in the UK and in America. The recording is available on Spotify and other streaming platforms.
ETS performed a selection of beautiful pieces by Eric Thiman (Old Caterhamian) and received high praise; “There was a very appreciative audience who were all very impressed by the quality of the singing. ETS not only perform to a very high standard, but you can also hear that they love their singing! It was not just the musical quality that was notable – the good nature, responsible behaviour and friendliness of the pupils during the visit – and their obvious caring concern for each other – was most impressive. It was a delight to work with, and listen to, ETS once again. Eric Thiman’s niece Frances and his close colleague Dorothy Webster-Thomas were both present and were “equally delighted.” reported Guy Turner.
Huge congratulations must go to all members of ETS for their professionalism and hard work on some challenging pieces. Their strong and confident performance was nuanced and highly expressive. Special mention must also go Marble Q (Year 6) who performed a piano solo ‘Floodtime’ and to Sophia PW and Namratha D for their beautiful vocal solos. The concert also featured two organ solos performed by Mr Hall.
Aside from performing, ETS were able to appreciate the stunning grounds of Southwell Minster- the ruins, gardens and Cardinal Wolsey’s banqueting hall (where they gave an impromptu performance). Huge fun and laughter (as well as joyful singing) on the coach made this otherwise tiring day a wonderful experience for all.
