Wonderful Performances at Poetry By Heart Competition

On Wednesday, 12 pupils from First to Fifth Year competed in the final of the Poetry by Heart competition. This event, which was initially contested in class heats and then year heats, saw over three hundred pupils at Caterham learn verse of their choice and perform in front of their peers. The standard was particularly high this year, making the task of choosing a winner particularly challenging for our judges, Mrs Webster and Mr Froy. After some wonderful performances, Florence R took the top spot with ‘The Cleaner’, Lia N second place with ‘Warming Her Pearls’ and Ronav D third place with ‘A Martian Sends a Postcard’. Congratulations to all finalists for getting through to this stage and to our winners for standing out from such a strong group of reciters. Thanks also must go to our judges and to the English department, who helped to organise and judge earlier heats. We hope families have enjoyed the sound of poetry ringing through their homes over the last few weeks and look forward to another Poetry by Heart competition next year.
