Scholars’ Recital Showcases Young Talent
Following the success and popularity of other music scholars’ events this year, a new Scholars’ Recital was added to the musical calendar, with the aim of showcasing some of our younger scholars. Alfred D (flute) opened the proceedings with a confident rendition of an unaccompanied movement from a Telemann sonata, while Catherine Y (violin) impressed with the taxing Praeludium and Allegro by Kreisler. Shaily R (cello) changed the mood with an assured performance of a piece from the contemporary repertoire. Gifted pianist Florence N treated the audience to a musically and technically proficient performance of Schumann’s Abegg Variations. Soraiya K (clarinet) presented a measured performance of Tartini’s first concerto, before Annie Liu (violin) ended the recital with the finale from Bruch’s concerto, showing real panache and dedication to the music. Well done to all involved.
