MJS Christmas Science Lecture
Moncrieff-Jones Christmas Lecture 2023: From Oceanography to Oil Spills
Tuesday 5 December – 7.00pm
The Moncrieff-Jones Society is delighted to conclude its fifty-sixth year of inspiring Caterham scientists by welcoming Dr Amy Jewell as our distinguished speaker for our Christmas lecture on Tuesday 5 December, at 19:00. Reserve your place using the form below.
Dr Jewell studied Oceanography with French at the University of Southampton, graduating in 2017, and completed a PhD in Paleoclimatology and Geochemistry at the same institution, graduating in 2022. She is now working with ITOPF, an international organisation dedicated to researching the causes of oil spills and preventing them as far as possible (and cleaning them up when they do occur).
A citizen of the world and a fantastic ambassador for careers in STEM (including STEM education), Dr Jewell is a keen runner and swimmer, and she has ventured into the worlds of first aid and drowning prevention. In her lecture, she will be exploring the chemistry and physics behind her PhD research and subsequent work. Her presentation will be essential viewing for anyone with interests or ambitions in climatology, ocean sciences, and international research, and is sure to be a gold standard piece of evidence in favour of Caterham Science’s ethos that science is for everyone!
To reserve your seat at the Moncrieff-Jones Society Christmas lecture for Tuesday 5 December 2023, please sign up using the below form. Tickets are free of charge. Refreshments will be provided from 18:30 in the Performing Arts Centre foyer, ahead of the start of the lecture at 19:00.
