IPHIGENIA AT AULIS
Thursday 8 & Friday 9 December 2022
Our suitcases are packed and we’ve got our boarding passes. Come and join us on the 8 & 9 December as we watch a Greek tragedy unfold before us at the airport. With a group of tourists scrutinising their every move, the Greek army waits impatiently at the departure gate, eager to get to the war in Troy. Its commander, Agamemnon, is desperate to secure his legacy, and is willing to sacrifice whatever- or whomever- it takes. But when his wife and daughter arrive, anticipating a wedding, the consequences of his ambitions become all too apparent. A mother becomes a protective beast whilst a young woman has to decide whether to fight against or accept her fate. With damning choices, a fizzing undercurrent of aggression and the ethics of war at its heart, Iphigenia at Aulis confronts us with the best and worst humanity has to offer.
Pupils in Fourth Year to Upper Sixth Form have been working diligently to understand and take ownership of themes posed by Euripides over 2000 years ago. From learning stage combat, to detailed choral work, the cast have thrown themselves into every challenge and are ready to show you the fruits of their labours. And they aren’t the only ones! Led by Mr Baddeley and Mr Riley, our fantastic technical team have been painstakingly putting together the world of the play. ‘Can you build me an airport?’ I asked. ‘Sure,’ they replied.
