COVID-19: after the clapping stopped’ is the title of this year’s MONCRIEFF-JONES SOCIETY ANNUAL CHRISTMAS SCIENCE LECTURE to be held in Humphrey’s Theatre at 7pm on Tues 6 December.

Our guest speakers are two top medics of their field from Guys & St Thomas where they looked after 1300 COVID patients in ICU, which is more than any other hospital in the UK, and had best survival in the UK.  Consultant anaesthetist Dr Suneil Ramessur will be joined by Prof Nicholas Hart, an Old Caterhamian and Professor of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine.  One of his patients was former PM Boris Johnson, whose son was given a middle name Nicholas after our guest speaker.

This year’s lecture will give us an incredible insight into what really happened during the pandemic and will reflect on the direct impact it had on healthcare and healthcare professionals as well as indirect consequences on healthcare and healthcare professionals even now.  It will look into how data science and modelling and science was used to try and ‘predict the future’ through wave 2, 3 and 4, and highlight the important trials the UK developed and delivered e.g. vaccine and treatment that has saved millions of lives globally.  It will also highlight the health inequality agenda which acute COVID and Long COVID has brought to the fore.
