Sports Fixtures Are Back!
After what seemed like a never ending sabbatical for school sports fixtures, it was brilliant for the cricket teams to get back on the field at the weekend, with the block against Seaford.
The first XI match was a wonderful advert for school cricket, and despite being a touch rusty, they played superbly at times to run a strong Seaford side close. Bowling first, Nathan was the pick of the bowlers and showed his potential, bowling fast and disciplined to finish with figures of 8-1-25-1 but could easily have had 2 or 3 more wickets. He was offered excellent support with the ball by Rohan and Ollie, and the fielding unit performed well under pressure.
Chasing 290 to win was always going to be a tough task, and even more so after losing Captain Ben and Christian early on. A lovely partnership of 65 between Barnwell and Bailey steadied the ship, in particular Bailey delighted with a series of beautifully timed straight drives. After Bailey was caught and bowled for 28, Knox joined Barnwell and played aggressively while nurturing a partnership worth 117. Barnwell struck a magnificent 105, and Knox a brutal 75 from only 52 balls, but once both were out the innings ran out of steam, and Caterham came second despite giving Seaford a scare.
There were some really competitive matches across the whole block, and some excellent performances. The best of which was Johnny, who scored 97 not out for the 2nd XI.
During the week, we have seen fixtures against Trinity for the 1st XI, where Ben scored a beautiful 68, and the U15B’s. While the U15A’s took on Lingfield College in the first round of the County Cup. Brilliant performances from Tom (110 not out) and Callum (56 not out) set a huge total of 227-2 from 20 overs. This was followed by a fine all round bowling performance by Callum (2-0-2-3), Nick (2-0-8-2), Hamish (2-0-6-2), Oscar (1-1-0-2), which allowed Caterham to progress into the second round.
