Cricket

Caterham School takes great pride in its comprehensive cricket program, a cornerstone of our summer sports offerings for both girls and boys. Under the dedicated guidance of our Master in Charge and Head of Cricket Performance, Jonathan Batty, we foster a thriving environment where pupils of all skill levels are encouraged to cultivate a lifelong love for the sport. To nurture high-potential cricketers, we provide tailored programs and access to the CAP initiative, ensuring they realise their maximum potential.

Throughout the summer term, Saturdays come alive with 18 teams proudly representing our school in block fixtures. From the U12 A & B teams to the prestigious 1st XI, we also integrate C and D team fixtures into the week’s games afternoons.

Caterham is fortunate to boast exceptional cricket facilities, including 7 meticulously maintained squares, 5 outdoor artificial nets, 4 indoor nets, and 2 top-of-the-line bowling machines, complemented by an outstanding coaching team. There are few places as picturesque as Homefield on a balmy summer day to revel in the spectacle of cricket.

Cricket tours hold a special place in the Caterham experience. Our junior pupils embark on an annual tour to Suffolk during the summer term, while our senior students engage in long-haul tours every three years, exploring cricketing delights in destinations like South Africa.

As winter sets in, our senior pupils enjoy one-on-one coaching sessions in the autumn term, preparing them for the winter nets that kick off in January.

Caterham’s cricketing legacy is illustrious, having produced exceptional talents such as Alistair Brown (Surrey and England), David Sales (Northants and England A), James Benning (Surrey), and the current Surrey fast bowler, Nathan Barnwell. This legacy is further affirmed by our inclusion in The Cricketer Magazine’s esteemed “Top 100 Cricketing Schools” list.
