Glow Production – Les Misérables
Over a dozen Caterham School pupils were part of Glow’s performance of Les Misérables at the Barn Theatre, Oxted; ranging from the First Year to Upper Sixth Form. For those of you who know Les Misérables, you will be aware that it is an exceptionally challenging musical and Glow performed it to an exceptionally high standard.
Ella Patterson’s (First Year) performance of Young Cosette’s Castle on a Cloud was superb; she captured the essence of the character tremendously and the vocals were equally excellent. Charlotte Bridson (Upper Sixth) performed an array of different parts including Enjolras; her performance was also very successful and she managed to capture the essence of the music very well. Joshua Millar (Third Year) performed the role of the Bishop of Digne and produced elegant and solemn vocal performances.
However, it was Jack Palmer’s immense portrayal of the lead character, Jean Jaljean that was one of the highlights of the production; his vocal performances (as well as theatrical) were truly astounding. When he sang Bring Him Home you could genuinely hear a pin drop – with not a dry eye in the audience!
It is excellent to see so many of our pupils involved in both music and drama in the wider community. Moreover, it is excellent to see them perform with such vocal and dramatic mastery. I must also mention Mr and Mrs Palmer (Parents of Jack Palmer) who directed/musically directed the show and Mrs Jackie Driscoll (Caterham Preparatory School) who runs Glow Productions and produced the show; their directorship and mentoring of all the pupils was extraordinary, and on behalf of the school I would like to thank them for their support of our pupils.
